If you love romantic comedies, you’ll probably already be very familiar with My Best Friend’s wedding and it’s gorgeous soundtrack. My Best Friend’s wedding is a rom-com classic that was released in 1997.

It follows the story of our main characters, Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, Rupert Everett, and Dermot Mulroney. Julia Roberts’ best friend gets engaged, and she realizes that she loves him herself – and she’ll do her best to get him.

Which Songs Can I Use in My Wedding?

If you’re looking for the perfect, “I married my best friend” song for your wedding, there are plenty of choices to choose from in this soundtrack. Let’s take a look at some of the songs you could choose and which part of your big day they would be most suited to.

I Say a Little Prayer – Diana King

While this song could be used at any point during your wedding, I think the optimal moment would be when you’re walking down the aisle to your chosen lifelong partner.

With lyrics such as,

“forever and ever, you’ll stay in my heart and I will love you, forever and ever, we never will part, oh, how I love you”

it really is a beautiful song and one that I’d almost describe as pretty. That is why I think it’s the best choice for your entrance music.

Wishin’ and Hopin – Ani Difranco

If you’re in the early stages of planning your wedding, you may not know that you need a playlist for when your guests are arriving. You need around 15 minutes of music to get your guests settled and in the mood for your wedding. I would recommend light-hearted music for this. And with lyrics such as,

“So if you’re thinking how great true love is, all you gotta do is hold him, and kiss him, and squeeze him, and love him, just do it, and after you do, you will be his”

it’s the perfect fit – as you very soon will be his forever!

The Way You Look Tonight – Tony Bennett

One of the most iconic first dance songs at weddings is The Way You Look Tonight. It’s one of the most romantic songs, and will work perfectly as a first dance song – as it has done already for thousands of other happy couples! With lyrics such as,

“With each word your tenderness grows, tearing my fears apart, and that laugh, that wrinkles your nose, touches my foolish heart, lovely, never, ever change, keep that breathless charm, won’t you please arrange it, cause I, I love you, just the way you look tonight”

it’s not hard to see why this song choice is one of the most infamous wedding pieces, decades on.

What the World Needs Now Is Love – Jackie DeShannon

Earlier, we spoke about the playlist for when your guests are arriving. This song is upbeat and happy and will put your guests in a great mood before your arrival. With lyrics such as,

“What the world needs now is love, sweet love, it’s the only thing that there’s just too little of, what the world needs now is love, sweet love, no not just for some, but for everyone”

it works really well, as there will never be a room as full of love as on your own wedding day.

If You Wanna Be Happy – Jimmy Soul

If you’re looking for something funny and witty for your wedding, this is the perfect choice. It would make for a hilarious exit song choice. Now you’re married and ready to leave the ceremony, with lyrics such as

“If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, never make a pretty woman your wife, so for my personal point of view, get an ugly girl to marry you”

your guests will definitely be crying with laughter, after a serious ceremony. It will likely give you and your partner a good laugh too!
