What Is A Bachelor Party?

A bachelor party (otherwise known as a stag do or buck’s night depending on where you’re from) is a party for a man who is about to be married. It often happens close to the wedding (but not too close!) and it’s usually only men that receive an invite. However, in more recent years, women can be invited and some couples even opt for a joint bachelor and bachelorette party!

If you’re wondering when to throw the bachelor party, it’s usually held around one to three months prior to the wedding. Despite contrary belief, it’s not usually held the night before the wedding anymore. This is because it usually makes for a groom that isn’t feeling great!

Who Plans The Bachelor Party?

If you’re looking to follow tradition, the best man (or woman) is usually the one to plan the bachelor party. His closest male friends and family will often help with ideas and it’s important to communicate with everyone you want in attendance early on so you can be sure they can attend. Nowadays, the groom may even want to plan his own bachelor party so that there are no surprises – and that’s completely okay too.

Corset Back Wedding Dress Alteration: How To

Today, we’re going to be looking at corset back wedding dress alteration and how to do it. Whether you’re looking at doing this yourself or you’re wanting more information on pricing and if it’s possible – this is the article for you. Adding a corset to a wedding dress sounds difficult, but it’s easier than you may think.

You may want a corset back wedding dress for a range of reasons, but one thing is for sure – wedding dress alterations are hugely popular. And it’s very rare that a dress fits like a glove with no extra work needed at all. Even when buying a dress off the rack, you’ll usually need some work done to it, to make it perfect. So let’s take a look at how to add a corset back to your wedding dress.

Reasons To Change Your Dress To A Corset Back

There are a few reasons you may want to change your dress to a corset back. One of the main reasons is that you have always dreamed of a corset back, but your dream dress has a zipper or other form of closure. If this is the case, and your dress already fits perfectly, the dress will also need to be taken up at the sides to create a space for the corset.

Another reason is that the dress is too small, and adding a corset can help this. However, for a dress to fit (even after adding the corset back), it must already fit you in the hip area. The corset will only help to make alterations with any waist issues that need resolving.

Can A Zipper Be Changed To A Corset Back?

Of course! A zipper changing to a corset is one of the most common wedding dress alterations. And this is possible to change on almost any wedding dress with a zipper. The most difficult issue you’ll face is finding a fabric to match your dress. However, if you get in touch with your bridal store or seamstress, they will likely have connections and be able to help you with this.

Bridal stores are able to order a corset kit from the dress manufacturer, which will make altering your dress as easy as possible.

How Much Will It Cost To Alter My Dress?

Prices will vary depending on the dress, and the work that needs doing. However, the estimate for a standard corset back alteration is between $100-$150. So be sure to leave a portion of your budget aside if adding a corset is on your to-do list! It may not seem too pricey, but it’s not an amount of money you’ll want to suddenly find closer to your wedding day – there’s always unexpected monetary purchases that crop up closer to the big day!

How To Add A Corset To Your Wedding Dress

I can not stress this enough – if you aren’t already good at sewing, or willing to put the work in, please don’t attempt to add a corset to your wedding dress yourself. However, if this is something you feel comfortable doing, it will save you some money for the big day, and it’s definitely possible.

The Sewing Garden has a fantastic tutorial on How to Add a Corset Back to Your Wedding Dress, that runs you through each step individually, in great detail. They even claim that it looks much harder than it actually is! It’s important to note that this tutorial is for a dress that already fits well.

She has a few tutorials on her website. One of which uses the traditional loops and a second that uses satin ribbon for the loops and ties. You can find that particular tutorial here.

Common Wedding Dress Alterations

Once you’ve chosen your dream wedding dress, you’ll want to source a seamstress fairly quickly. They usually fill up with bookings fairly quickly, and you’ll need to schedule in several visits before the big day. The consultation is usually free of charge, so shop around. It took me a while to find someone I was comfortable handing my wedding dress over to.

There are many alterations you may want to make to your wedding dress – and adding a corset to the back of your wedding dress is just one of many. Some other popular wedding dress alterations include:

  1. Shortening the Hem. I’m 5ft 2″…so my hem had to be shortened a lot! They usually make dresses longer for taller brides. As it’s much easier to shorten a dress than to make it longer.
  2. Train Loops and Buttons. Some dresses already come with these (mine did), but it gives you somewhere to attach the train of your dress so you can move more freely in the evening.
  3. Taking in/out at the Hips/Waist. This is one of the most common alterations. Every woman’s body is unique, so usually, there’s some work to do to fit all of our wonderful curves.
  4. Taking in Around the Bust. Another common one. We all have different bust and chest sizes – so of course, that may need some changes.
  5. Adding Sleeves. Some brides prefer to cover their arms for their wedding day, and their dream dress may not have sleeves. However, that’s super easy to rectify and your dream dress can have sleeves in no time!

I hope this article has helped you to become more familiar with corset back wedding dress alteration and how to go about doing it. Whether you’re doing it yourself or having it done at a store, it couldn’t be easier to rectify and your dream dress will be in front of your eyes in no time at all!

Thank You Letter To Parents For Wedding: How To

Today, we’re going to be looking at how to write a thank you letter to parents for the wedding. Your parents are likely a huge part of your life and it may feel difficult to express the love and gratitude you have for them in words. Whether you want it to be sincere, light-hearted, funny, or serious – we’ll be covering it all!

What Is A Wedding Program?

Oftentimes, weddings will have a wedding program. This is usually a piece of paper or leaflet that has all the information you’ll need about the running order of the day. There’s usually a wedding day timeline, alongside the order of ceremony, any songs or readings that may happen throughout the ceremony – plus information about the wedding party.

What Is A Wedding Program Thank You?

Often, in the wedding program, they’ll be a thank you message to your parents. There won’t be too much space on the program itself, so you’ll need to keep it short, sweet, and meaningful. Not only can you use this space to thank your parents, but to show some appreciation for the guests in attendance too.

If you’re looking for some ways to word your gratitude and thanks to your parents and guests, why not try using some of our ideas?

Wedding Program Thank You Wording

  • Thank you all for being in attendance today and for being part of such a memorable occasion. To our parents, we cannot thank you enough for all we have learnt from you and for the constant love and support you have always given us. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you all so much.
  • We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for coming and to everyone that has helped. In particular, the biggest thank you goes out to our parents who have worked together to make this day as perfect and seamless as possible.
  • With the biggest thank you going to our parents for everything they’ve done to get us here today, we would also like to take this chance to say thank you to all our family and friends who have come together for our special day. We love you!
  • Today is a dream come true. And that dream would not have been possible without the help of our parents. We love you endlessly and thank you. Another huge thank you goes to all our family and friends who have joined us here today.
  • Our parents have given us so much love and guidance to help us reach this day, and no words can express our gratitude for their continual love and support. We would also like to thank all of our relatives and close friends for being here today.

These are just a few ideas, so feel free to pick and choose, and change anything that needs changing to suit you.

Thank You Message For Parents On Wedding Day

Writing a letter to parents on the wedding day is something special and something that they’ll treasure forever. The letter can be as long or as short as you want it to be. I’m sure your parents will feel grateful for anything they receive as a gesture of thanks.

Before we look at the wording, here’s some tips you may find useful:

  • Make the letter handwritten. Nothing feels more personal than a handwritten letter
  • Try not to make it too generic – the more personal, the better
  • Include memories, inside jokes, things that will make your parents smile

You may be wondering what wording to use. We can’t write the whole letter, but here are some ideas of wording to use within the letter.

Thank You Letter Wording

  • Mom, you have always been my beacon of light. Dad, you have always given me the best of everything. Without you both, I would not be where I am today. And I can proudly say that you, alongside my new wife/husband, are the greatest gift the world has given me.
  • The memories we’ve made together and the times we’ve had have been truly unforgettable. I can look back fondly on my life and know that I have the best parents in the world. Parents who have done more than I could have ever asked for me, so thank you.
  • You taught me how to respect. How to be kind. And most importantly, how to love. Without that being instilled in me, I’m not sure I would be here today, with the love of my life. So thank you for teaching me that love is the most important thing in the world; I would be lost without you both.
  • You have always given me immense amounts of the greatest gift in the world: love. Along with time, affection, and patience. Things I will cherish, for always and pass down to my own children. You will always be my heroes, Mom and Dad.
  • To our parents, thank you. Thank you for supporting us over the years. Thank you for nurturing us into the good people that we are. And most of all, thank you for the everlasting love you’ve given us, all the way up to our special day. You’ve made our wedding dreams come true – so thank you.

Poems can add a truly unique and beautiful element to your wedding ceremony. When you can’t put into your own words how someone makes you feel, poetry does the talking for you. It feels personal and intimate to read each other poems – but which one to choose? Let’s take a look at our top 10 favorites.

Our Souls are Mirrors by Rupi Kaur

“god must have kneaded you and i
from the same dough
rolled us out as one on the baking sheet
must have suddenly realized
how unfair it was
to put that much magic in one person
and sadly split that dough in two
how else is it that
when i look in the mirror
i am looking at you
when you breathe
my own lungs fill with air
that we just met but we
have known each other our whole lives
if we were not made as one to begin with”

The Gift by Pam Brown

“In you are flowers and firelight,
stars and songbirds,
the scent of summer,
the stillness just before dawn.
I love you today,
dressed in glory.
I will love you always-
dancing, singing, reading, making, planning, arguing.
I will love you cantankerous, and tired,
courageous and in terror,
joyful, fearful and triumphant.
I will love you through all weathers and all change.
For all you are is precious to me.
And every day I live with you
and share your love
is a gift to me.”

At Nightfall by Charles Hanson Towne

“I need so much the quiet of your love
After the day’s loud strife;
I need your calm all other things above
After the stress of life.
I crave the haven that in your dear heart lies,
After all toil is done;
I need the star shine of your heavenly eyes,
After the day’s great sun.”

Devoted by Lori Eberhai

“My heart can be your home,
my soul can be your refuge.
You can turn to me when you are weak,
you can call to me when the way is not clear.
I will be your promise and your prayer,
I will always be there,
Constant and complete.
Run to me,
reach out for me,
and I will love you in a unique and tender way.
Bring your love to me,
share your love with me,
sing your love to me,
and I will offer you peace, ease and comfort.”

Your Light I Learn How to Love by Rumi

“In your light I learn how to love.
In your beauty, how to make poems.
You dance inside my chest, where no one sees you,
but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.”

In One Another’s Souls by Rumi

“The moment I heard my first love story
I started looking for you,
not knowing how useless that was.
Lovers don’t meet somewhere along the way.
They’re in one another’s souls all along.”

Roads go Ever on by J. R. R Tolkien

“Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,
By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea;
Over snow by winter sown,
And through the merry flowers of June,
Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains in the moon.
Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known.”

The Day Sky by Hafiz

“Let us be like
Two falling stars in the day sky.
Let no one know of our sublime beauty
As we hold hands with God
And burn

Into a sacred existence that defies—
That surpasses

Every description of ecstasy
And love.”

This Marriage by Rumi

“May these vows and this marriage be blessed.
May it be sweet milk,
this marriage, like wine and halvah.
May this marriage offer fruit and shade
like the date palm.
May this marriage be full of laughter,
our every day a day in paradise.
May this marriage be a sign of compassion,
a seal of happiness here and hereafter.
May this marriage have a fair face and a good name,
an omen as welcomes the moon in a clear blue sky.
I am out of words to describe
how spirit mingles in this marriage.”

One Hundred Love Sonnets by Pablo Neruda

“I don’t love you as if you were a rose of salt, topaz,
or arrow of carnations that propagate fire:
I love you as one loves certain obscure things,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul.
I love you as the plant that doesn’t bloom but carries
the light of those flowers, hidden, within itself,
and thanks to your love the tight aroma that arose
from the earth lives dimly in my body.”

And those are our top 10 soulmate poems. If you’re looking for more wedding poems, there’s a beautiful book by Julia Watson called Poems and Readings for Weddings which I highly recommend. You can buy your own copy here.

And most of the ideas you can do yourself, or buy from online marketplace such as Etsy and eBay. Some popular bridal shower games (besides Why do We Do That) are:

  • Find the Guest. This is a great game to start off the bridal shower and acquaint any guests that do not know each other. Questions are asked such as, find the guest that: speaks a different language, is wearing red shoes etc. This way your guests will have to mingle and become familiar with one another!
  • Making Cocktails. Split your bridal shower into small teams and get some cocktail ingredients at the ready. Set a time limit for the teams to make the best new cocktail of their choosing…and even name it something wedding related! You can offer a small prize for the winning team, or their bragging rights can be enough of a prize!
  • Charades: Wedding Version. Charades is a common game that most people enjoy, so why not play it with a wedding twist? Act out books, films, TV shows (all wedding themed, of course). You could use ideas such as Say Yes to the Dress, Mamma Mia, 27 Dresses, The Wedding Singer etc.
  • Musical Bouquet. You’ve no doubt heard of musical chairs…but what about musical bouquet? It’s musical chairs with a twist! Have guests sit in a circle and pass round the flowers. Whoever is holding the flowers when the music stop is eliminated. Much like musical chairs, the last person is the winner!
  • Scavenger Hunt. This can be in the room that you’re hosting the bridal shower in, or you can go big with this one! You can use clues such as, “the couple’s favorite place to eat”, or “the bride’s favorite place to shop”. It will be a lot of fun for the guests and get everyone involved.

How To Decorate A Flower Girl Basket: DIY

Today, we’re going to be looking at how to decorate a flower girl basket. With anything wedding related, if you buy it ready-made, the cost is a lot more expensive. So why not try making some of the items for your big day yourself? One of the loveliest items to make yourself is a flower girl basket. But how do you decorate it? If you’re looking for ideas, inspiration, and even tutorials – look no further!

What Is A Flower Girl?

Usually, a flower girl is a close relative of the bride or groom themselves. Typically, they’re between 3-8 years old, but it’s entirely up to you if you don’t feel the young female in your life is old enough to be a bridesmaid. Often, flower girls throw petals from a basket just before the bride herself walks down the aisle. A flower girl is an adorable way to incorporate the younger members of your family into your wedding. It makes them feel important, and they look super cute whilst doing it!

What Is A Flower Girl Basket?

A flower girl basket is what a flower girl traditionally takes down the aisle. The basket is often white and wicker. And full of flower petals or flowers. This is for the flower girl to decorate the aisle with and make a grand entrance for the bride. While the basket of flowers is traditional, you can use anything! We’ll be looking at alternatives later.

How To Make A Flower Girl’s Basket

Usually, you can visit your local arts and crafts store and pick up a plain white wicker basket (if that’s the color you’re looking for). Of course, you can opt to leave the outside of the basket plain – but it really does add an extra bit of magic to your wedding if you opt to decorate it.

This Flower Girl Basket DIY from Paper N Snitch Blog is super handy if you’re looking to decorate the outside of your basket with fresh flowers. You can match the color of the flowers to your color scheme, or just opt for subtle, pastel colors – they usually work the best in weddings.

In this particular tutorial, they use pink roses, lavender tulips, lamb’s ear, and white and lavender sweet peas – but you can choose whichever flowers you’d like. The items you’ll need to decorate your flower girl’s basket are:

  • Fresh Flowers (or faux if you’d prefer)
  • Basket
  • Hot Glue and Glue Sticks
  • Scissors

Most of those items you may already have at home, so it shouldn’t be too difficult! This may also be a nice activity to do alongside your flower girl(s). One of the most important points to remember if using fresh flowers is to make sure that they’re hydrated. The more hydrated they are when starting the creation, the longer the flowers will last once attached to the basket.

If you’re looking for more suggestions with flowers, this article from Wedding O Mania is a great starting point.

Flower Girl Baskets Ideas

If you want to decorate with something other than flowers or use a different style basket, there’s plenty of other options. Here are some of our favorite ideas:

  • Corsage. Why not stick on a corsage to the outside of your basket? It’s quick and easy to do – and makes it easy to spot that your flower girl is part of the bridal party.
  • Jewel Rim. Adding some rhinestones and jewels to the rim of the basket is simple but effective. It adds a bit of sparkle to your baskets in a subtle, cute way.
  • Wrapping Paper. Something cost-effective and easy is decorating your basket with wrapping paper. You can stick to one design, or use a variety to make lots of different patterns,
  • Glitter. You can’t go wrong with spray glitter – it’s perfect for any wedding!
  • Ribbon. Another simple but effective idea is ribbon. This is great for an elegant, classy feel.

Flower Girl Basket Alternatives

If you’re not sure if a basket is right for your flower girl, there’s plenty of other alternatives that you can buy or make yourself at home. Here’s some of our top suggestions.

  • Single Stem. If you’re looking for something simple that requires little effort from your part, why not have your flower girl walk down the aisle holding a single flower?
  • Wand. Wands are becoming increasingly popular for flower girls. It really will look like they’re adding a sprinkle of magic to your wedding day! And they can made with anything such as flowers, butterflies, ribbon, paper, etc.
  • Confetti. Sprinkling confetti instead of flowers is a really common alternative. You can even choose confetti that fits into your color scheme.
  • Bubbles. If your ceremony is outdoors, why not have your flower girls blow some bubbles down the aisle? Everyone loves bubbles! And they make for great photo opportunities.
  • Balloons. Walking down the aisle with a single white heart balloon is a super cute idea – you can even add Mr. and Mrs. to the balloon itself!
  • Parasols. If your ceremony is outside, parasols are perfect. They’re romantic, classy, and good for Summer weddings.
  • Signs. Something simple like a “Here Comes the Bride” sign is a good way to let your wedding guests know that the bride is ready to make her grand entrance!

Cool Things To Do With Sparklers At Weddings

Today, we’re going to be looking at cool things to do with sparklers on your big day. There’s a wide selection of fun things to do with sparklers…and they really do add a bit of sparkle to your day. Let’s take a look at some of the best sparkler ideas, and why they’re becoming increasingly more popular at weddings in more recent years.

What Is A Sparkler?

You’ll likely already know what a sparkler is, and they’re very common around this time of year. But more recently, they’ve been showing up at weddings! Sparklers are small handheld fireworks that emit sparks in a safe, controlled way. You hold one end and it sparkles until burnt away. You can get sparklers in a range of colors and do lots of cool tricks with them (if you know what you’re doing).

Why Use A Sparkler At Your Wedding?

Using sparklers at your wedding is a trend that is extremely popular nowadays, and it’s not difficult to see why. If you’re looking for a unique way to add a sparkle (excuse the pun!) to your wedding, this is a great choice. You can use them at any point throughout your day and they make for gorgeous photos that you’ll treasure forever. Your wedding is a big occasion, so what better way to celebrate than with sparkle?!

Things To Do With Sparklers

Whether you only choose one person to use sparklers or your entire wedding party, there’s an idea for everyone in our ideas – let’s take a look.

“I Do” Kiss with Sparklers

When you share that first kiss as a married couple, what better way to celebrate than with sparklers. Whether they are behind you and make for the perfect backdrop for you and your now lifelong partner, or each guest has their own and lights their own sparkler to celebrate your union – it will be truly special and memorable for you, and your guests.

Sparkler Photos After the Ceremony

Sparklers are well known for writing messages in the air and capturing great photos. Once the ceremony is over, and you go to your photographer for photos – why not incorporate sparklers? Whether you choose to do this with your now-husband/wife (writing Mr. and Mrs. in the air is a super cute idea!) or with your bridal party for a bit of goofy fun – this will certainly leave a smile on your face. While also making some gorgeous everlasting photos.

Sparklers on Your Cake

On special occasions (usually birthdays), you may have a sparkler in your cake – so why should your wedding cake be any different? It will be attention-grabbing for all of your guests to let them know it’s cake cutting time and makes for a stunning cake. Cake sparklers are 100% safe and usually burn for around a minute; giving you plenty of time for those perfect photo opportunities!

Sparkler Girl

You’ve heard of flower girls…but have you heard of sparkler girls? Having your flower girl(s) walk down the aisle with a single-lit sparkler will be sure to bring tears to your guest’s eyes. While also making for some gorgeous photos of the young ladies in your life. This is a really unique idea if you’re looking to steer away from tradition.

The most common use of sparklers is when the bride enters, or when the happy couple make their exit after the ceremony. Having sparklers lit at the entrance or exit will make for a special moment you will treasure forever. And make the guests feel really involved too if they each have their own. You can even add customized sparkler tags (we’ll look at those later).

Where To Buy Sparklers For Your Wedding?

There’s so many places you may want to buy your sparklers from – after a quick Google, you’ll be inundated with sparkler options. However, I would recommend Grand Wedding Exit. They have a range of different sizes, including 10, 14, and 20 inches. They also have different shapes, including stars and hearts! If you’re looking for bundles, rather than individual sets, they supply those too! And confetti and balloons, if you’re looking to shop in the same place for all of your décor needs.

If you’re giving each guest their own sparkler, you may want to personalize them with a tag. Sites like Etsy and eBay have a range of affordable options with personalized labels that include the couples’ names and date of the wedding, and a cute tagline like “let love sparkle”. You can find them in a range of styles and colors, to match the color theme/scheme of your wedding.

You can also buy a Wedding Sparklers Box to store the sparklers in and your guests can help themselves. If you’re having a chic/rustic wedding, this idea will work perfectly with your theme. This particular wedding sparkler box is £44.70 from Etsy and can be done with a selection of finishes, and be personalized with any wording you may choose.

I hope this article has introduced you to just some of the cool things to do with sparklers. Using sparklers at any point throughout your day is fun, memorable, and unique. And really does make for the best wedding photos that will make you feel you’re in a movie. And what better day to feel that way than on your wedding! The smile it will leave on not only your face, but your guests’ faces too will definitely be worth it. And it’s a great activity for the kids to enjoy too!

Did you use sparklers at your wedding? Or do you plan to? Did you use any ideas that didn’t make it onto the list? If so, please feel free to let me know in the comments below – I love reading them. You may be helping out future brides and grooms with their own sparkler needs, on their wedding day. Sharing is caring!

How To Make A Boutonniere With Ribbon: Do It Yourself

Today we’re going to be looking at how to make a boutonniere with ribbon. Boutonnieres are often seen at most weddings, and they can become quite pricey – especially if you need a large volume of them. So why not try making them yourself? Not only will it save money, but it also adds a real personal touch to your wedding.

Some boutonnieres can cost over $25 each, and you can make your own for a fraction of the price. But how’s the best way to do it? Let’s take a look.

What Is A Boutonniere?

Firstly, you may not even know what a boutonniere is! I’ll be honest, before my own wedding, I had no idea. You may know boutonnieres better as buttonholes. A boutonniere is a small spray of flowers that go inside the buttonhole. It’s typically a single flower of bud, but it’s becoming more common to have one or two small flowers, with a few small pieces of greenery.

Boutonniere DIY – Making Your Own

Making a boutonniere couldn’t be easier! Blooms by the Box have a fantastic tutorial on DIY Grooms and Groomsmen Boutonnieres. This is what we’ll be taking a look at today. Before we get into the tutorial, it’s important to note that the stems in this tutorial are just a guide – you can choose any flowers and greenery that you desire.

Groom’s Boutonniere

The first part of the tutorial is the groom. The grooms should be different to his groomsmen so he’s easy to pick out from the crowd! For the groom’s boutonniere, you’ll need:

  • 1 stem of Freedom Rose
  • 2 stems of Pittosporum
  • Two stems of Eucalyptus
  • 2 stems of Thistle Eryngium
  • Floral Tape
  • Ribbon
  • Straight Pins
  • Boutonniere Pins
  • Floral Scissors
  • Paring Knife

Once you have all of the equipment, you won’t have to spend any more money, and it can easily be reused at other occasions. Here’s a step-by-step guide for making your groom’s boutonniere:

  1. Get your Freedom Rose stem (or another flower of choice) and cut; leaving around 3-4 inches of stem. Pinch the bloom when doing so.
  2. Cut the Pittosporum stem the same length as above and arrange them together.
  3. Grab your thistle and add to the arrangement. Hold stems in place when you’re happy.
  4. Cut small pieces of the Eucalyptus and integrate them within the other stems.
  5. Hold them together and begin wrapping with the floral tape just under the rose bloom. Be sure to tape downwards and leave around a third of the stem on show at the bottom.
  6. Trim the bottom of the stems with floral scissors.
  7. Choose your ribbon (should be 5/8″ in width) and cut to around 8 inches.
  8. Hold the ribbon where the floral tape starts, just under the bloom and pin in place. Repeat until the floral tape can not be seen and the ribbon is on full display.
  9. Use a pin to secure the ribbon into place – your groom’s boutonniere is complete!

Groomsmen’s Boutonniere

Next, you’ll want to be making the boutonniere’s for the groomsmen. You’ll be needing very similar equipment and following many of the same steps – but it’s very important that the final product looks different enough to the groom’s, but close enough to match…it’s a very fine line!

The equipment you’ll need is:

  • Two stems of Red Hypericum
  • 2 stems of cut Thistle Eryngium
  • 2 stems of Pittosporum
  • Floral Tape
  • Ribbon
  • Straight Pins
  • Boutonniere Pins
  • Floral Scissors
  • Paring Knife

And let’s take a look at how to make them! Here’s how:

  1. Cut both stems of the Hypericum, leaving 3-4″ of stem, as before.
  2. Cut the Thistle stems the same length as the Hypericum and arrange both flowers together.
  3. Grab the Pittosporum and arrange behind the Hypericum and hold tightly.
  4. Use the floral clippers to trim the ends of the stems.
  5. Tape the stems together with floral tape, with the same method as above.
  6. You can use the same ribbon as you did for the groom’s boutonniere (cut to 8″ in length)
  7. Wrap with stems with ribbon overlapping ribbon, until no floral tape can be seen.
  8. Pin the end of the ribbon (be careful with this part)
  9. Attach with a boutonniere pin – and your groomsmen’s boutonniere is ready!

Things To Consider When Making A Boutonniere With Ribbon

There’s several aspects to keep in mind when choosing the supplies for your boutonniere. Let’s take a look at the most important ones!

  1. Choosing Flowers. Small, dainty flowers are the best choice, as opposed to larger blooms. Some suggestions are spray roses and pansies. Having a little greenery is important too!
  2. Do Not Make Too Early. While it can be time-consuming and you may be desperate to finish ASAP, it’s best to wait until the evening before your wedding. Leave somewhere cool or dry, or ideally in a shallow glass of water. This will keep your boutonniere as fresh as possible.
  3. Practice. Buy enough materials so you can practice first – you want to make picture-perfect arrangements, which may take a few attempts to get right.
  4. Look for Inspiration. You can draw inspiration from anywhere for the style of your boutonnieres, but Brides has an amazing article, which has 50 Groom Boutonniere Ideas! It’s definitely worth taking a look.

I hope this article has helped you learn how to make a boutonniere with ribbon. I bet it’s easier than you first thought! While it may be time-consuming and will take some patience – it’s a great activity to do the night before the wedding to calm those wedding nerves! And something you and your partner may like to do together to add that personal touch to your special day.
